Do a search on the tomb of the unknown soldier.
Reply:hey thats weird....... my schools gonna too! do you go to st. joseph too! my dc trip is next wednesday!
Reply:It is a great honor. Those men and women died fighting for your rights.
Reply:The laying of the wreath at the Tomb of The Unknowns is a very high honor. The soldiers who protect that tomb will march back and forth even in hurricane conditions, when they wouldn't have to.

I have been to the Tomb of the Unknown, and if you know the history it is a very powerful experinece.

The Tomb of the Unknowns was originally established when a soldier from WWII was found KIA but with no indentification on him, the government honored his sacrifice by having a special tomb designed in thier honor. There has been a soldier added from Korea and Vietnam as well. Although some of the bodies have now been identified and they have been given back to their families.

The quote on the tomb reads "Here lies a soldier known but to God".

You are essentially honoring their sacfrice and saying that you will not forget. They gave you the freedom in which you live today, they sacrificed so you can make the choices that you are allowed to make.

The changing of the guard is also a really moving ceremony if you listen closely to the words that are spoken.

Remember that freedom isn't free, and these men paid the price for your freedom. Maybe you should look up more info on the Tomb of the Unknowns. I think it is sad that more and more students are not learning of these parts of our nations history...maybe it's not the schools its the families. But I feel that everyone needs to know about the significance of world and American history to make sure history does not repeat itself.
Reply:its giving recognition to all the soldiers who died for our country
Reply:It's not just a soldier it is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, this tomb symbolizes every American soldier in every war who has not come home to their families. The importance of this ceremony is that we as a people will continue to remember and honor their sacrifice for our great nation, and freedoms. It is a very special experience and one that will touch you at the very center of your heart. This has to be requested very far in advance.

Here is a very nice picture essay to look though that might give you some more facts.

Reply:It is a great honor. These men and women at Arlington fought for your rights and we owe them a great deal of gratitude.
Reply:mine too! The importance of laying a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier is that it is a high honor... you are honoring any unidentified bodies missing soldiers form wars past and soldiers who are un identifiable at the time of body recovery /death. You are honoring all the famalies that still dont know where there loved ones are and the unknown soldiers who are not honored by name it is very special and an extremley high honor
Reply:I don't know much about the actual ceremony, but it's important because you are paying respect to all of the men and women that fought for your rights.

You should consider it an honor to be involved in a ceremony like this.
Reply:I agree with all the other posters!
