The Civic Crown (Latin: corona civica) was a chaplet of common oak leaves woven to form a crown. During the Roman Republic, and the subsequent Principate, it was regarded as the second highest military decoration a citizen could aspire to (the Grass Crown being held in higher regard). It was reserved for men who saved the lives of fellow soldiers, and held the ground upon which he did this for the remainder of the engagement. After Sulla's constitutional reforms, any recipient of the Civic Crown was entitled entry into the Senate. Furthermore, the recipient was required by law to wear his crown at every public gathering, and was applauded even by men much senior to himself. It later became a prerogative for Roman Emperors to be awarded the Civic Crown (originating with Augustus, who was awarded it for saving the lives of citizens by ending the series of civil wars). Famous recipients include Julius Caesar and Caesar Augustus.
What is the name of the wreath that romans wore on their heads?
the laurel wreath.
Reply:Lorals
Reply:The laural wreath...

Reply:It's spelled "LAUREL" as in bay laurel or bay leaves used in cooking.
Reply:Diadem - a wreath of leaves of flowers
Reply:Corona: Generally, a wreath or crown. Specifically, the highest distinction awarded for valor in war, as in corona civica, a wreath of oak leaves for saving a citizen's life in battle, or corona muralis, a golden circle in the form of a city wall for the soldier who first climbed the wall of an enemy's camp.
Crown: A circlet for the head. In the third century A.D). the radiate crown of the sun god was commonly worn by Roman emperors. Religious crowns worn by priests frequently had images of deities engraved on them.
Reply:I think it was a laurel wreath and was for heroics not just general wear.

How d oyou make a head wreath ? what are they called?
Are you thinking a wreath of plant materials? That's a garland, or a lei in Hawaii. If you make it from long stemmed plant materials, you twist the stems around one another, adding more and continuing to twist and weave, until it holds together. You might tie it here and there with some bits of heavy thread.
I've made garlands using flowers before, and I held those together with heavy, upholstery thread. I took a big sewing needle with the thread attached, then stabbed the base of each flower to attach it to the thread. (I used gladiola blossoms). The resulting garland was beautiful, but heavy! I put the finished garlands in a plastic bag in the refrigerator to keep them fresh. You can make them head sized or neck sized.

Are you thinking of the kind that "Cesar" wore? Check with a local florist shop and they should have the floral wire/ribbon that you need. Holly may be used but is stickery. The florist shop should have other materials or be able to guide you with local plants.
Have fun.

Does Anyone Know How To Play "Wreath of Barbs" by Wumpscut on Piano?
Ever since I first heard this song, I've been obsessed with the piano that plays creepily. If you haven't heard it, check it out. It's dark and chilling, especially that piano. I wanna learn how to play it, but it seems I can't find it anywhere on the internet. And, another problem is, I don't know how to read music, so if possible, I'd like the answer to be in the alphabet form, because that I know. Thanks.

Wreath laying ceremony in arlington national cemetery.?
I'm wrtiting an essay to be in the wreath laying ceremony in washington. One thing i have to write about in my essay is what the ceremony means to me. I have never ben to or seen the ceremony, can you plz describe it for me?
Wreath laying ceremony in arlington national cemetery.?
Oh wow! I have been to such a ceremony. There is nothing more heartbreaking, touching, solemn, sad, rememberable, honorable, and any other number of adjectives in the world! It is a very solemn ceremony designed to honor the fallen. It is done very quietly (although some speaking is necessary of course). It is held in a small courtyard overlooking much of the cemetery and has some bleachers for people to sit on, I sat on the ground near the railing. BE SURE NOT TO CROSS INTO THE AREA! Marine guards are not joking around and are absolutely and unequivocally scary when you come into their area without invitation. One of my classmates got too close to the line and everyone in the audience jumped when began to address her. She was scared to tears, no joke. I found a video of it online. It is a perfect represenation of what I saw... Oh I hope you go. I think every american should, it is something you will NEVER EVER forget!
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=...
The box behind the soldier speaking at the beginning is the actual tomb, it is very nondescript, but its symbolism is powerful! Note the seriousness of the armed guards (yes, armed) as I said, that is one serious job! They are considered very honored to be the guard of the fallen soldiers, this is something to write about. People actually compete to guard the dead, that shows its power!

no, use the foam rings you can get at hobby lobby. Makes it easier to pin toys/washcloths/onesies whatever into it and it will look fuller and round.
Reply:Yep! Exactly, then the diapers and I always wind a pretty ribbon trought to cover the wire hanger at the top!

Pampered chef chicken wreath/ring recipe.?
This recipe was featured in one of their small $2 cookbooks from the fall of 2004 I believe. I loaned my cookbook out and never got it back. I can't recall the exact name of the recipe but it included chicken and made a wreath. The cookbook had a wreath on the cover if that helps anyone.

George Bush refuses to lay a wreath at Arafat's tomb, should candidates be asked their opinion on this matter?
I wouldn't waste the time to take a piss on Arafat's tomb. The man was a terrorist who did nothing but kill innocents and hoard money for his personal comfort.
George Bush refuses to lay a wreath at Arafat's tomb, should candidates be asked their opinion on this matter?
Sure, other candidates should be asked their opinion on this issue. I'll vote for the one who advocates pissing on Arafat's grave.
Reply:I don't agree with Bush on many things, but I think his actions were appropriate. I think it is a non issue for obvious issues. I don't think even Palestinians would lay a wreath on Arafat's tomb so why should an American President?
Reply:This is not something that would influence the way I would vote. Personally, I wouldn't want my president or candidate for president to lay a wreath anywhere right now. It would obviously be for show, and it would be disrespectful to the deceased to be party to a media event like that. And in my view, the jury is still out on Arafat.
Reply:Arafat was a terrorist...No one should lay a wreath for him.
Reply:No, no sane American would be in favor of laying a wreath at the grave of an anti-Semitic terrorist.

Unless a president has honorably served in the military, shouldn't the senior retired Gen/Adm lay the wreath
at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Veterans Day? Having a politician do it demeans the whole ceremomy and insults those who wore the uniform.
Unless a president has honorably served in the military, shouldn't the senior retired Gen/Adm lay the wreath
In response to all the people ranting about how Bush and Cheney should be there because they are in the supposed chain of command, I say that the are absolutely technically correct. However, Bush DID NOT fulfill his obligated time in service. There are absolutely no records of him actually performing any drills other than the one where he visited the dentist. Please DO NOT EMBARASS YOURSELF. CHECK YOUR FACTS.
I agree that the higest ranking sevicemember should lay the wreath. In this case, it would be the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Reply:The President is the commander and chief regardless if he has any military experience or not because he is elected by the people. He is the leader of the country regardless what people think of him. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an advocate of some of the things our President does or has done, but he still our President and this is the best country in the world.
I don't think the focus should be on who lays the wreath, but that those soldiers are remembered and veterans nationwide are honored and respected.
Reply:The President is the commander of the military.

Did George W. Bush leave the military with a Dishonorable discharge??
I don't think so.
Neither is it a requirement of the Office of the President to have been a member of the military.
And that makes your "question" pointless.

The military is governed by our Civilian Government. It would be the Greatest DISHONOR to have a General lay the wreath. As Soldiers, we serve the Constitution of the United States, not any person.
You have insulted everyone who ever served in the U.S. Military with this question.

Conservative trivia #3: What American President layed a wreath in memorial for Nazi SS in Bitburg Germany?
Jewish demonstrators from the United States, France, Britain, West Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Israel and other countries protested this President's visit to Bitburg. They were joined by groups of veterans and politicians, many of them weeping. Many German Rabbis refused to attend.
White House aides acknowledged that the Bitburg visit was the biggest fiasco of this President's time in office.

Yes, I read the article in Newsweek that week- there was some SS soldiers in the same cemetery where he was laying the wreath-

Why Would My Ex Husband Lay A Wreath On Jeffery Dahmers Grave?
He also wears a wrist band with his name on it.
Why Would My Ex Husband Lay A Wreath On Jeffery Dahmers Grave?
Maybe there was a connection that predated Dahmer's acts
of sexual perversion and violence. Dahmer was ill since a
child. He had a profound form of the disease necrophilia, and
his bizarre acts that ended in murder, were due to this disease,
which he could not control.
If Dahmer had gotten the psychological diagnosis and
treatment he needed as a child, he would likely have led a
normal life.
People are fond of condemning people for criminal acts,
even when those acts are sometimes resultant from illnesses
so profound that such a person could not control their
actions. That is the definition of insanity, and Dahmer was
definitely insane in this way.
It would make about as much sense to condemn someone
for childhood diabetes. People can be very ignorant and
inhuman in their judgements, and those same condemners
are the ones who wail the loudest when they are arrested
for their own criminal behaviors.
Reply:Well he is lying to you or your that naive to think he was in the Nakio Navy. Nakio is a cell phone company, Jeffery Dahmer is a serial murderer. So your ex is worshiping a serial killer you have been warned.

Ideas for decorating a "Baking Themed" wreath?
I have to make a baking themed wreath. Any thoughts on what would be cute. We're using glue guns. Thank you.
Ideas for decorating a "Baking Themed" wreath?
rolling pin, plactic measuring cups %26amp; Spoons, an apron, a recipe card w/ recipe on it
Reply:Check out Oriental Tradings web site. Great tree and wreath items. www.orientaltrading.com.
Reply:A few items that would work are a small wire wisp, mini cup cake papers and measuring spoons. Wooden mixing spoons with a ribbon bow would look great and maybe some cookie cutters strung on a ribbon and spaced around your wreath or they could dangle loosely on the ribbon. Cookie cutters come in metal as well as plastic and can come in different colors. Cinnamon sticks are great. Also dried apples cut so the seeds make a star. And making fake cookies and things with a flour and salt recipe would work great.
4 cups flour; 1 cup salt; 1 1/2 cup warm water.
Mix salt and flour first. Slowly add warm water. Roll dough to approx. 1/8 inch and use cookie cutters for shapes.
Bake at 325 degrees for one hour or until hard. Use paint to decorate and varnish to preserve. This recipe is great for making ornaments and things. Just use your imagination in decorating your wreath. If you can't find dried apple slices use the dough and make your own. Hope this helps. Have fun.

You can cinnamon ornaments . it will make your wreath smell great.

Reply:Go to the toy department and get some kids toy baking pans, rolling pins and the like. Some of them might even have a small cookbook with them. Add some cookie cutters, cinnamon sticks, a small whisk - you get the idea! Let me know how it comes out - sounds like fun!
Reply:BiancaVee had some great ideas! Also, what about cookie cutters, small baking pkgs (ie: baking powder, sugar packages, cinnamon, etc), speaking of cinnamon - cinnamon sticks! A mini grater, small old fashioned hand mixer, small measuring cups, etc. Sounds cute to me! You could also add sprigs of dried mint, thyme, dill, etc.

Did Carter Lay a Wreath at the Graves of the Muslims who Killed the 243 Russian Kids in Beslan?
Is that a high priority given that he laid a wreath on Arafat's grave?
Did Carter Lay a Wreath at the Graves of the Muslims who Killed the 243 Russian Kids in Beslan?
He was the worst President ever.
Reply:I'm sure you would have been happy if he had layed a wreath on the graves of the Jewish terrorists of Irgun and Stern Gang, who were responsible for atrocities rivaling anything the Palestinians have committed, including (but not limited to) the massacre (and mutilation/rape in some cases) of over 200 men, women and children at Deir Yassin, the bombing of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, which killed nearly 100 innocents, and the kidnapping and murder of British troops. People who don't know anything should not be allowed to have opinions.

might sound a retarded question but seriously i really don't know
Friday 7Th December I'm going to a funeral not sure but do i need to send a wreath/flowers?
Here in Scotland anyway one usually goes along with the wishes of the immediate family, unless you are quite a close relative and wish to send a floral tribute. Often if there is a death announcement in the newspaper and it was the wish of the deceased person not to have flowers it says so. I do think a card would be appropriate. At a Roman Catholic Funeral it would normally be a Mass Card (a special card signed by a priest and although not absolutely necessary usually a small donation is enclosed with it for the priest) although it you are not of the same faith a Sympathy Card would still be much appreciated. With most other religions a Sympathy card is always appreciated. Often also in a newspaper announcement or on arrival at the church/crematorium etc if the family wish donations to a particular charity they let it be known and there is normally a box somewhere. However, this would be a voluntary donation and only if someone wished to give. Black is no longer necessary to wear at funerals but I must admit recently it seems many people still do attend in black or dark colours as a sign of respect. Hope this has helped.
Reply:You don't need to send anything. We went to a funeral recently, brought a bouquet of Lillie's and placed them at the casket. Our next friend was cremated; we sent a donation to his favourite charity.
No need to send anything really, your presence and attention to your friend's family is all that is what is required if you feel you need to do this.
This is a personal time for you as well, you do what you wish.
Remember, they are in your mind and heart forever.
Good wishes.
Reply:No you don't need to send flowers but a card is nice.
My brother's death last yr was the same, unexplained and investigated and we had to wait for the autopsy- It's hard.
The greatest gift you can give is your presence and support.
I'm sorry for your loss.
Reply:It depends how close you were to the deceased, and only you know that.
Why not go to a good florist and ask them? They'll be experienced in that kind of thing.
If you really can't decide, then send flowers anyway. They won't be un-appreciated.
Reply:The customary practice is to send flowers through a florist beforehand. However, when a close friend of ours died suddenly of a heart attack we just took a dozen or so little pots of cyclamen for the tables at the 'wake'. When my mother died, I saw her the day before her funeral, and I put some beautifully scented freesias in her coffin. To this day I still cannot buy freesias.
But yes, to be 'correct' send some flowers through a florist. Or just go with a simple bouquet of beautiful and unusual flowers and ask for them to be placed on a coffin. I have been to so many funerals in my life that I think they are now relatively 'etiquette-free' - just do what your heart tells you. Go out into the fields and hedgerows and pick anything lovely.
Reply:Flowers are usually sent by family and friends - but there's no obligation to.
Did you know the person well? If you want to send some, then do. A lot of people these days give the option of donating to a specified charity instead - if you feel you can't ask the family then ask the funeral director instead.
Reply:Usually flowers/wreaths are given by immediate family members. You didn't say how close you were with the deceased or their family. A sympathy card is appropriate, and you could put $20.00/$25.00 in it if you want to help the family with expenses, especially if you are attending a funeral luncheon . There usually is a rack or drop box type thing at the front of the funeral parlor to insert the card. If you are not real close to the family, like a relative or even distant relative, your presence will be enough to help with the family's mourning.
Reply:Usually the person's family prefer to have a donation made to a charity of their choice. (If the person died of cancer they may want donations to go to Cancer Research instead of a wreath/flowers...much better idea.)
Reply:not really that necessary...I can't remember a single person that sent flowers or made a donation to cancer or heart research (which we asked for in lieu of flowers) but I can remember many who were present at the service we had for my mom.
Reply:Not unless you want to. Most families are most happy you just take the time to attend.
Reply:If you're a family member, close cousin, aunt, uncle, etc., or a really close friend, you would send flowers. If you're a family member but not close or a friend but not close, you can buy a sympathy card and put money inside, or sometimes at the wake they have cards that you can put money inside. If you don't do flowers or money a Mass Card, or a benefit card ex: the Cancer Society, The National Heart Foundation, generally people will donate to the foundation that represents the disease the person may have passed away from, which will either be listed in the newspaper or you can call the funeral home to get extended information.
Reply:Hi you could always ask if the family would like a donation to a charity in stead
Reply:It is a nice gesture but not necessary. Also you could give to charity and have them send a note to the family... kind of nice since they will have so many flowers and plants already.
Reply:Find out from a member of the family whether they would like flowers or a donation to a certain charity they or the departed may have supported in the past.
Reply:Do something useful and make a donation as most funerals often have collections for donation to specific charities, in my fathers case, donations were given to cancer research, other funerals I have been to were given to other cancer charities or the persons favourite charity.
Reply:No, the flowers are usually already sorted out by the next of kin.
Reply:They keep bodies that long where you live ???????
Reply:it's never easy knowing which etiquette to follow for funerals,if the person was well known to you personally, then i would say yes if not then a sympathy card would be ok,the other thing is has the deceased's family requested no flowers, but donations to a particular charity instead, but the main thing to remember is you attendence at the funeral, will be more significant to the family,i hope this helpsyou,

I am apalled and disgusted that he is dishonoring our fallen hero's just to make a political statement. He clearly doesnt care about our service members, and to me, this is nothing more than a dog and pony show.
Is anyone else bothered by Bush laying a wreath at Arlington National Cemetary?
Yea and I'm not sure why. A real gut feeling that something is wrong with this picture. All the things he has done wrong and all. It must lay in the back of his mind how he avoided the call to service. But I understand it is tradition. For those of you who criticize this question I suggest you walk the walk first. Unlike our Pres.
Reply:his daddy pulled strings to keep him out of the service so he has no idea what it means to protect his country, so i think he does this becuase hes already looks bad about his past so he doesnt want anymore bad news reports on him. Report It
Reply:This is a tradition for Presidents. He is the civilian representative honoring the fallen soldiers for the rest of the country.
It is the right thing to do.

Might not have Iran's President Ahmadinejad's laying a memorial wreath at 'ground zero' been a good thing?
It may have been a wonderful symbol of reconcilation from the Arab world that might signal a much-needed end of the so-called "Islamist" jihad against America and our endless war on terrorism too . . .
Might not have Iran's President Ahmadinejad's laying a memorial wreath at 'ground zero' been a good thing?
On what grounds is he even allowed into any Western Democratic country? He's a vile puppet of Islams clerical extremists evolved from the Ayatollah fanatic who infiltrated Iran under equally fabricated lies (fermented and put in place for years - by his underground henchmen) to bring an end to the alleged tyranny under the Shah!
A civilized country that gave untold wealth to the world i.e. its history, culture and many other diverse ways the free world so admired and respected.
And look at Iran today - the clock retarded centuries and now no more then a barren wilderness devoid of all life, gaiety, laughter, human achievement and endeavor!
Only clerical, military and extremist councils entrenched in despicable criteria of past dark satanic age's. Forever waging their cult of war and creating such turmoil that will ultimately lead to conflicts this world has never seen or can imagine!
Where do they come from? From which crazed lunatic asylums do they graduate from?
We, who are forced to watch, as civilization slowly crumbles while Western world politicians bow down, bow down and render only appeasement - to the vile world wide indoctrination of Islams clerical extremist fanatics.
Reply:Because that jerks country is already supplying weapons to the insurgents in Iraq that are killing American soldiers. If the U.N. was not on U.S. soil he would not even be welcome here at all.
Reply:Considering Ahmadinejad, however, this is highly unlikely. He is a great proponent of anti-American jihad; most likely he would honor the killers, even though they were Sunnis.
Reply:Yeah, that makes everything all better.
Reply:Perhaps Ahmadinejad supports terrorism. Perhaps he even supplies weapons to terrorist fighters in Iraq. However Saudi Arabia supports them financially and we like them. Admittedly the Saudi support is second hand giving the money to radical extremists in their own country who pass it on to terrorists. I suppose by that logic you could even say the USA supports terrorism by giving them our money for oil.
Point is it was not necessary to insult the Iranian leader Ahmadinejad by refusing to let him show remorse for the loss of life in 9/11 even if you think his reaction might be crocodile tears.
Reply:No ; and most of us don't think he should be here at all .
Reply:I am sure he would use this as a photo opt and - in his dialect - take the opportunity to thank Allah for allowing this to happen. He doesn't belong anywhere near ground zero.
Reply:Yes it could have; he would have been in the open with lots of tall buildings in the area so a sharp shooter could have easily taken him out. Why the heck do you think it was the police stating they could not adequately protect him that stopped the whole thing? Talk about pouring gasoline on an inferno!
Reply:I'm starting to get the feeling that his statements that Iran and the US are not headed for war are false. I read this on the Yahoo news. If I knew how to highlight and bring the article to here I would but I don't know how to do it. He's getting scary. Every nice thing he does seems like he's covering something evil coming. And I thought he had really changed.

I would like to know a poem to go with a birdseed wreath at a wedding. Letting people know to sprinkle it.?
Birdseed wreath to place in church, poem to inform people to what to do. Sprinkle birdseed instead of confetti.
I would like to know a poem to go with a birdseed wreath at a wedding. Letting people know to sprinkle it.?
Warmer
At night the sun bows early
under the dimly lit trees
The shadows of years past
reflect upon the seeds
Darkening sky, dry air about
fleas and ticks, underground for the night
Trail of yellow and a souring mist
burning holes into the snows new list
Chorus
A path of vomit
and a listless foot
printed on white
with a dragging hoof
I have found my maker
and his place for my feet
away from the hustle
of the empty street
I ramble onward
to my given state of greed
resting warm here
In the self warming glee
A message in a bottle
not meant for you to read
only a statement
Old number five and me
Reply:When name and name have said I do
And sealed it with a kiss
No confetti, rice, or bubbles,
But we'll shower them with this!
My sister using Cheerio's so adding this, but just the first verse alone is nice, too.
Like little golden wedding bands
Of love that never ends
These will not bring any harm
To our feathered friends.
(We grew up in Buffalo were Cheerios are made) LOL
Reply:At this time the bride and groom would like every one to join in the sealing of their vows by part taking in the feeding of this special seed to The Lord's most beautiful creatures.
OR
The bride and groom would like to request on this day. Not to chase the birds away. But treat them to this wreath of seed.Cause all God's flying creatures need to feed
Reply:Put a couple of nieces or young family friends in charge of handing out the packets and explaining that it is lieu of confetti or rice. The little girls will be delighted, and who will mind getting instructions?
If that will not work for you, a simple sign at the wreath that says something like
"Just as the seed will nourish the birds, love will nourish this union. Just as wings spread to carry the birds in flight, may the wishes we cast now carry the couple into the flight of a long and happy life."
It's not a poem exactly, but you could modify it to embody exactly the sentiments you want the seed to symbolize.

Do you think it is appropriate for a former U.S. President to be laying a wreath at the grave of a terrorist?
Not to mention embracing a member of Hamas?
http://hotair.com/archives/2008/04/15/mo...
Would we see more of this type of conduct if Obama were ever elected to office?
Embracing terrorist and assorted other enemies of America?
Do you think it is appropriate for a former U.S. President to be laying a wreath at the grave of a terrorist?
He is a member of the Anti-America party
What else would you expect
Reply:The embrace is a traditional form of greeting. If there is ever going to be any prospect of peace between Israel and the Palestinians, somebody is going to have to start talking, and that means normal greetings will take place. U.S. security is certainly at stake.
I have more problems with the wreath-laying at Arafat's grave. He was certainly involved in terrorism, including the murders of Israeli athletes during the 1972 Olympics. However, he was also certainly miscast as the roadblock to peace in the aftermath of the 2000 Camp David debacle, where U.S. incompetence and Israeli intransigence ended the peace process by trying to force acceptance of a fundamentally impossible "agreement."
I fail to see what this has to do with Senator Obama, unless you think that prominent Christians in the Democratic Party collectively favor terrorism.
Reply:I suppose you feel Isreal is an innocent victim of Hamas, huh? You know what the press feeds you, which amounts to nothing short of pro-Isreal cheerleading.
Have you read the part of the Constitution that advises us against foreign entanglements? Have you searched out the other side of the story? I'm not agreeing with terrorism by any stretch of your imagination, but please take the time to research the true facts.
And I'm undecided about the wreath laying. What if all that's needed to cease hostilities is for each side to move towards each other symbolically? Maybe showing respect is the right thing to do, maybe not. Time will tell.

This is a problem with the United States. The opinion of people in the United States is not always, and often in direct opposition to, the opinion of people in other nations.
Sure, it is obvious from the number of nations that approved of the Iraq War that the Iraq War had and has a majority of international support. At the same time the very public opinion of the French and German Governments were in opposition.
Most of the world does not consider Arafat a terrorist.
What is surprising is that Democrats accept the minority opinion on the Iraq War and the majority opinion on Arafat.

It strikes me as odd, though, that people will beset Carter with ridicule but continue to uphold Obama, who has forged an intricate but alarmingly obvious connection and support of terrorist and fringe groups in the Middle East and South America.

Which candidate can't wait to lay a wreath at the tomb of Yassar Arafat?

Which candidate can't wait to lay a wreath at the tomb of Yassar Arafat?
Obama
Obama has chosen Jimmy Carter as his mentor.
Jimmy Carter thought all of the goofy Mullahs and Ayatollahs and other assorted Muslim Terrorists were his friends.
Jimmy Carter has not learned very much in the years since his administration was brought to an early end when Carter was voted out of office.
Sadly Obama seems to make very bad choices when it comes to spiritual advisors and mentors.
First it was that goofy character, the so called "Reverend Wright" as a spiritual advisor.
Now it is that goofy Jimmy Carter as mentor.

I hear the leader of Iran wants to put a wreath at ground zero, but our government won't let him. What do you
I think that America should let him come and lay a wreath. Goodwill has to start somewhere Just possible if they do this Iran may reply by giving up the desire to make nuclear weapons. It would be a small price to pay.
Reply:I would tell him hell no your not going anywhere around ground zero; espesally as much as he hates Americans..Go put some weather in Iran.
Reply:Not sure what to think, do you have a link about it?
Reply:IRAN is killing americans in Iraq.
they sponsor terrorism.
it is not acceptable for such evil to visit such hallow ground.
Reply:I'm not sure if he is putting the wreath there for the innocent people who died there or the terrorists. I honestly don't think the leader of Iran has any good intentions when it comes to the United States.
Reply:Let him. Invite all of his government that want to come. Then sink their plane over the Atlantic. End of Iran problem.
Reply:I wouldn't let him near ground zero. The only reason he wants to go there is for a photo op, while all the while he's probably thinking he could have done it better. :-))

How do i make a Christmas wreath with garbage bags?
This was a very interesting question and I researched it and found the link listed below. It looks pretty cool and I'm gonna try it out. Thanks for the idea!

How do i make a Christmas wreath with garbage bags?
don't know about garbage bags but you can use baggies. Just get a hanger and make it into a circle. Fold the baggie in half and twist tie it. Keep doing this until you fill up the circle. It looks really pretty when done. If you want you can add red berries or christmas ornaments to it when you are done. Put a bow at the top or bottom too. They are clear baggies and look really pretty. i think you could even spray fake snow on them or add glitter to it. You decide.
I would suppose that if you do it with garbage bags you would have to cut it into strips and then wrap them around. Baggies are much easier. Better sized for the job. You might even be able to buy decorated baggies for the season and use them. Then they will already be decorated. Just add a bow.
Reply:I know you bend a wire (probably a hanger) into a circle. then tie the bags around the wire pushing them as close together as possible adding more and more until the wire is full... then paint.

What does the laural wreath in Heda Gabbler mean?
The vine leaves (laurel wreath) are a symbol of pagan freedom, poetry and defiance; hence why she describes Lovborg coming with vine leaves in his hair as she thinks that he is about to carry out a beautiful death.

What is the meaning of a Christmas wreath?
They're pretty and they smell good.
Other than that, I'm stumped.
What is the meaning of a Christmas wreath?
The Romans hung them on doors as signs of victory, this is how they started hanging on doors suposably.
Another one was the Germanic Christians would hang them on doors and light fires to symbolize the renwed like of spring.
Something similar to one of those.
Reply:Hmmm... I really never bother to ask why I always put a wreath in front of our door every month of December...
But, here is a description from a website that I found about Advent Wreaths:
"Advent wreaths have their origins in the folk traditions of northern Europe, where in the deep of winter people lit candles on wheel-shaped bundles of evergreen. Both the evergreen and the circular shape symbolized ongoing life. The candlelight gave comfort at this darkest time of the year, as people looked forward to the longer days of spring.
Later, Eastern European Christians adopted this practice. By the sixteenth century, they were making Advent wreaths much as we know them today. An Advent wreath traditionally contains four candles—three purple and one rose. The three purple candles in the Advent wreath symbolize hope, peace, and love. These candles are lit on the first, second, and fourth Sundays of Advent. The rose or pink candle, which symbolizes joy, is usually lit on the third Sunday.
Sometimes a fifth candle is placed inside the Advent wreath. This candle is lit on Christmas Day. It is white, the color associated with angels and the birth of Jesus. Another variation is to remove the four colored candles after Advent has passed and replace them with four white candles to be lit every evening during the remaining holiday season.
Because Advent wreaths are an informal celebration, not all are the same. Many wreaths featured blue or white candles and the wreaths are made up of a variety of greens or dried arrangements.
Whatever Advent wreath you choose it is important to remember the birth and ascension of Christ and to use the holiday season as a time of reflection and quality family time."

Reply:It's just another adopted tradition from ancient times before christianity. Somewhere along the line they decided to make it a symbol of the thorn thingie of the head of jesus but that's not what it truly represents at all.

What do you need to do to cut evergreens before you make a wreath with them? I want it to last until New Year
You need a permit from your local forestry office to cut down the evergreen. Newly cut evergreen bows are more flexable and should be put into water immediately. You can always get the watering tubes that florist use to attach to the ends to give them water after you make the wreath. Mist your wreath often to give it as much water as possible.
What do you need to do to cut evergreens before you make a wreath with them? I want it to last until New Year
I don't see any need to cut down the evergreen tree to make a wreath out of it ? I make wreath all the time. How big of a wreath would you make with a whole tree. You need a round wire of the size of the wreath you are going to make, old wire coat hangers can be shaped to the size that you want the wreath to be. You will need a good pair of cutting pliers, to cut the end off to shape the wire, or you can just leave it on if that is the size that you want and use the hook end to hang the wreath. You then take tree cuttings off of the evergreen where it is not to noticeable, maybe it has an overgrowth on it somewhere where you might want to trim it anyway, take the thicker part of the woody end and wire(you can buy this wire in any craft store or $1 store for that matter) and wire it to the circular wire the next part that you have cut put the woody end under the fur end of the circle and wire it so that you do not see the woody end repeat until your wreath is complete. The decorate you fasten on the decoration with either hot glue gun(found at craft and $1 too) or wire them on which is the easiest way for you.If you do this now it will last way into the new year, they cut down Christmas trees in August for the sale at Christmas time and look at how they last...........Good Luck
Reply:I don't do anything with them. I just cut them just before I want to use them. Some people do spray them with a preservative to help maintain freshness. you could probably find it at a local florist shop. Just make sure you keep the greens in a cool place. they last longer that way. I live in central new york state, so that isn't a problem for me. Oh... I've been making wreaths for 14 years....no one has complained yet...in fact, most people tell me that their wreaths last until late march or early april...and they usually get them in the beginning of december. hope this helps!
Reply:cut the tree about 4 inches from the bottom and soak in a full bucket of water for at least 12 hours giving it lots of water and time to soak it up into the boughs. All the additives such as aspirin and sugar is a bunch of bull it simply needs lots of water make the wreath and then about once every few days mist it with a squirt bottle and plain water it will last a lot longer than by the new year

My dog ate a part of a wreath ornament. It had sterofom balls (about 1/4 of an inch thick) and painted gold...
We went to the vet already and they gave her pills to soften her stool...she's a small dog...if this happened to anybody else, tell me and tell me whether your dog's ok...:(
My dog ate a part of a wreath ornament. It had sterofom balls (about 1/4 of an inch thick) and painted gold...
well Since the balls were quite tiny, they should process right through her. watch your dog and try to see if the balls pass, even though it is a little yuk to look .If they don't process then you need to make another trip to the vet.
good luck

Why is Bob Kearns from Colorado such an ***? What's so wrong with a peace wreath?
Have you heard about this guy Bob Kearns from Colorado? He believes that hanging a wreath in the shape of a peace sign is a protest against war and will not stand for it. He has ordered a neighbor in his homeowner's association to take it down and she refused. When the homeowner's committee was contacted by him and ordered to remove the wreath, they refused and he fired them. Why would someone be so selfish and such an *** about something that he should be working toward as well - peace. What's so wrong with peace and how can a jerk like this be so arrogant about a peaceful symbol (the biggest one there is). If you're out there Bob Kearns please answer and let us know why you are such an ***.

Can anyone tell me how I could make a flower out of a babys wash rag to put on a wreath?
Take the rag, and fold it over, then under, in little increments ... repeatedly. Like they showed you in elementary school with paper... so that it resembles stairs. wire the middle tightly into a knot. Unfold and voila... a flower
Can anyone tell me how I could make a flower out of a babys wash rag to put on a wreath?
I don't know about that idea with the wire if you are plannin on someone being able to use these rags-of course if unless it's a thin wire or thread. I say fold it in half, fold it in half again. Use the edge with the two loose edges and the "folded" edge out for the flower petals.. and just bend or fold and stitch in like half-inch, inch increments. Definetly easier to imagine than to describe. Just keep stitching to the center.

Why shouldn't the president of Iran be allowed to lay a wreath at the scene of the 9-11 outrage?
because he would be exposed to all the ignorant people out there who do not know the difference between Iran and Iraq and he would be in danger from all those who believe every Muslim is a terrorist.
the person who should not lay a wreath at the site is George Bush because he is too arrogant to see that his policies have exposed the whole world to terrorist attack and will continue to endanger us all by believing that anything America wants, America can do

Winter wreath colors?
I have a grapevine wreath on my front door that I change for the seasons and holidays. I want to do something for winter, and would like ideas on a color scheme to use. Right now it is decorated in a burgundy and white Christmas theme, so I want to stay away from those colors.
Winter wreath colors?
i justmade one ...i went to the thrift store and found some leaves in a lighter green and oval shaped I also bought some dusky blue sprig like oornaments at targetin the clearance christmas aisle... i wound the leaves around the wreath and added the sprigs... so it looks like a more wintery appeal with the dusky blue sprigs... i wanted to stayaway from white or the snowy look as thatstill to me looks christmas themed... maybe try wrapping some vine around it and put some of those winter bird picks like cardinals and berries in it...thatwould be cute too
Reply:Like the bird idea - add some red [ holly ] berries too!
Use jewel tones - ruby red, topaz gold, emerald green, sapphire blue, amethyst purple.
Get rid of the white.
Use evergreen sprigs to fill in gaps.

Did you hear, the Libertarian party sent a wreath of flowers to the RNC headquarters?
mourning the loss of small government values?

Classic political humor!!! and one of the best commentaries of this whole election cycle..
Reply:Now that shows creativity! And it sure makes a unique statement in a way that can't go unnoticed....plus it makes for terrific press! Thanks for this. Love it!
Reply:They are about 40 years too late. Those values left the party after Goldwater's defeat. And for anyone who claims Reagan had "small government values" please tell me one thing he ever did to reduce the size of the Federal Government other than talk about it.
Reply:They might have sent flowers, but nobody knows who they are still. I wonder who really ended up with the flowers . . .
Reply:How thoughtful, especially on Valentine's Day. Who paid for it? All five Libertarians?
Reply:Hillarious.
It's so true.
We have very little control over our government. If you only get to chose from the people the govt says you can chose from then ... Is it really a choice at all?
We don't have a democracy. We have a 2 party system that is controlled through funding, with no moral or ethical basis. Where a man can become president when he actually and verifiabley receives fewer citizen votes.
With that said, I wouldn't trade our system of govt for any other.

Reply:The evergreen tree is a symbol of fertility (life) because it not only survives in the winter but with all its greenness. Look at most trees in the winter and they are just bare dead-looking things, but the evergreen is thriving (hence the name ever-green). Since Christmas is a holiday celebrating the birth and life of Jesus, the evergreen tree is a symbol to reflect this.

Could i use the laurel wreath of the famous ONU logo for my logo ?
I need to do a logo for a company and i want to know if the laurel wreath from all UN organisation, can be use according to you according the copyright and trademark laws ?
for example :
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag_...
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag_...
Thank you !
Could i use the laurel wreath of the famous ONU logo for my logo ?
The laurel wreath is an ancient symbol of victory and achievement. Do an image search and you will find over 26,000 different laurel wreath images, all quite similar - the UN does not "own" that component of their logo. However, if you work other similar design elements into your logo, you are getting on shakier ground - best to modify the designs so that there is no confusion and no future problems.
Reply:The New World Order will take anyone they can get...
Reply:Change the design and make a different logo so that you will not be charged for making a similar logo which is exclusively for the use of the UN.
Reply:don't hold me to it, but i believe in order to not get in trouble with copyright laws and such the orignal had to be altered by a minimum of 20 percent. wikipedia probably has info on copyright infringement...

In making a diaper wreath, what do you use as the center ring.
Do you use a wire clothes hanger or what?
In making a diaper wreath, what do you use as the .....?
no, use the foam rings you can get at hobby lobby. Makes it easier to pin toys/washcloths/onesies whatever into it and it will look fuller and round.
Reply:Yep! Exactly, then the diapers and I always wind a pretty ribbon trought to cover the wire hanger at the top!

Is there any precedent, legal or otherwise for having a Christmas wreath made out of marijuana?
***These are the kinds of things I think about when I'm sitting at home alone and the power goes out***
Is there any precedent, legal or otherwise for having a Christmas wreath made out of marijuana?
actually, if you use leafs from a male plant that was less than 4 feet tall you can tell the court that its commercial hemp (contain no thc) and therefor is not illegal.
Reply:I can think of 2 precedents for not having a marijuana wreath. First, you can't legally grow it. Second, you can't legally buy it. The third reason I can think of can go either way: here in California you can go to compassionate doctor who Will give you pot for compassionate reasons, but you are supposed to smoke it, not decorate with it. The prescribing M.D.'s could stop giving you marijuana, and that would a waste for the patient.
Reply:Do it and find out, I hate to see you have to spend Christmas in Jail.
Reply:first, if the power is out how did you send in this question, and second, that is illegal since it is drug possesion
Reply:You could be arrested for position.
Reply:Yeah, it's called possession of a controlled substance.
Reply:Oh, yeah! Was very popular on liberal college campuses in the 60's.
Reply:I had one 2 years ago, but someone stole it.

Help! I have a wreath on my porch beside my front door and this bird keeps building a nest even when I remove?
Put up a bird house or let the bird have the wreath. You could try hanging a feeder nearby the location and the bird might get fed up with all the visitors and leave.

Oh, let the poor thing have it's nest and give birth.

go to a craft store and get a wire or branches shaped the way you want it to be.cover it with moss then add the sage, securing with fish line,so you won't be able to see whats holding it together.add anything else that you think will set it off(dried flowers, ribbon.beads),if you like.
Why was the wreath of roses not presented to day at the KY Derby?
It was, but there wasn't much video of it happening. I taped it and it definitely happened.
Why was the wreath of roses not presented to day at the KY Derby?
It was, though they didn't show much of the ceremony because of the tragedy involving Eight Belles.

Is there a right and wrong way to display a wreath? Bow on top, or bow on the bottom?
There is no one way to display a wreath. The bow can be on the side, top or bottom. If you are purchasing a premade wreath, look at the way the tails of the bow hang. This will give you an idea of the proper way to hang that particular wreath.
Is there a right and wrong way to display a wreath? Bow on top, or bow on the bottom?
Going by coins from the 1600's and up the bow has always been at the bottom of the wreath, when a wreath was used on a coin. For decoration I thing it is what you like. I am not a singer, but have told people I sing for my enjoyment not theirs, so do as you like.
Reply:No, I have seen wreaths with bows place top
and bottom. I have even seen the bow placed
slightly off center at the top. As long as the bow
is full it doesn't matter where the bow is placed.
Reply:I don't think there's a right or wrong way....I was Event Coordinator at Michaels for 7 years....made a lot of wreaths, and I think it depends on two things.....what you have on it, and where you plan to hang it. Some places you might put it could create a problem with those tails at the bottom....I have a kitten, and I think of these things!

Why is it an honor to lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknowns?
It's like when someone takes flowers to a loved one's grave. It's a sign of respect and honor. We may not know who they are, but they did serve our country and deserve the upmost respect.
Why is it an honor to lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknowns?
It's so messed up that they fought for this country and died but nobody came pick up their bodies....
We have America today because they fought for it long time ago and look how great America has become.
They deserve the greatest respect!

How do you attach a wreath on a car?
cuz i really wanna know?
How do you attach a wreath on a car?
I buy plastic ties at the Dollar Store for a dollar. They are thin plastic strips that you fit one end into the other for a tight fit (cops use them to handcuff criminals) and attatch the wreath at the vehicles grill. I do this with a semi and even going through the truck wash won't remove the wreath. When the holidays are over, you just cut the plastic tie and the wreath comes off.
Reply:string it to your spare
Reply:Use wire to attach to your grille.
Reply:Try a heavy duty suction cup
