How do I get the "curled" look when cutting wood?

I found a Christmas wreath at Wal-Mart that was made of large, shaved/curled wood pieces, and am interested in making one of my own. Anyone know how to "shave" wood to make slightly curved pieces?

How do I get the "curled" look when cutting wood?
If you use a plane that is really sharp, the shavings will be curled up already.....You will not have to use water to make it curl up......The hardest part is going to be adjusting the plane. That's the biggest problem with people using a plane, they just do not know how to adjust it......
Reply:i get pounds of them off my lathe...
Reply:You use a plain to shave the wood. Then soak the wood in water to get it soft. Then curl it while it's wet around something the size you would like. Then let it dry.
Reply:You need a tool called a plane, a Jack or Jr. jack plane will be your best bet go to any hardware,or home improvement store they will have what you need an can teach you how to use it.
Reply:I'm not sure what you need but it sounds like shaving from a plain. If you have a plain the make your shavings from that.
