What's the difference between the two Latin sentences?

1) Et pecūniam et corōnās poētīs dōnābis.

2) Et pecūniā et corōnīs poētās dōnābis.

I can hardly work out how they differ from each other. I translated the first as "You will give the poets both punishment and wreaths", but the translation of the second one seems to be "You will present the poets with both punishment and wreaths". But what on earth is the difference between the two?

What's the difference between the two Latin sentences?
There is a difference in declension:

In the first sentence, pecūniam and corōnās are in the accusative case: they are the direct objects. Poētīs is dative (well spotted, JJ), because it is receiving money and wreaths. That sentence would be translated 'you(S) will give both money and wreaths(Direct Object) to the poets(Indirect Objects).'

Dōnāre can, as you pointed out, be also translated as 'present,' but for this to happen, a change of cases is neccesary. In the sentence, 'you will present the poets with both money and wreaths,' the poets becomes accusative and the direct object (poetas), whereas money and wreaths, because they become indirect objects, turn into the dative (pecūniā et corōnis.)

I hope that this clarified the difference between the two.

(P.S. If you wanted to substitute 'punishment' for 'money' in these sentences, the first would use 'poenam' and the second would use 'poena.'

Best wishes,

C.s.
Reply:The first one is " You will give the poets (dative) money and wreaths ( both accusative).

In the second sentence the dative is turned into an accusative, which means the thing(s) given, and the datives which denote the person/thing being given to, turn into an accusative.

So the second one has to be translated as " You will give poets to the money and the wreaths.
Reply:I think the first one is "And you will give money and garlands/crowns to (the) poets." I can't figure out the second one.

EDIT: Just seen C-S's reply - great! One small point, poetis is in the DATIVE case, not the ablative, being indirect object. Poetis is both dative and ablative plural or poeta.
Reply:Is it one spanish and one portuguese?

they have similar words..
Reply:I'm not sure, but doesn't pecunia mean money (as in pecunia non olet - Money doesn't smell)?

punishment would be poena, right.

Lycopodium Management

by Elizabeth Nauertz, USDA Forest Service and Colleen Matula, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources:

Introduction and Background

Lycopodium, or club moss, species occur relatively frequently in northern hardwood forests (Curtis, 1959; Kotar, Kovach, and Locey, 1988). Lycopodium comes from the Greek words "luko" (wolf) and "podos" (foot); thus the common name of "wolf's paw" or "wolf's foot."

Lycopodium species are not related to the mosses as some might think, but rather are related to the ferns and are considered to be fern-allies. They are evergreen, perennial, clonal, and rhizomatous in nature. Habitat range for each Lycopodium species may vary, but typically they are found in cool, moist conditions, can tolerate a range of nutrient availability, and can withstand a wide range of light conditions. Often they are found in maple-basswood or mixed pine-hardwoods.

A variety of species of Lycopodium occur in the northern forests. The most common to these forests are as listed: Lycopodium dendroideum (round-branched ground pine), Lycopodium obscurum (flat-branched ground pine), Lycopodium lucidulum (shining club moss), Lycopodium annotinum (bristly or stiff club moss), Lycopodium complanatum (ground cedar), and Lycopodium clavatum (running club moss or wolf's paw).

Of this group of species, the ground pines, also known as princess pine, are the most heavily harvested or gathered. Ground pines are allowed for harvest via a permitting process on federal national forest lands. Permits are also issued for harvest on Michigan and Minnesota state forest lands. Harvest by permit is not allowed on Wisconsin state forest land. Lycopodium complanatum (ground cedar) and Lycopodium clavatum (running club moss) are also often gathered, but only from privately owned lands and with landowner permission.

I have a wreath and I' m not sure where to put it?

I recently moved out of my husband's house and back into my parents house. My mom is the most non-festive person you'll ever meet. The only holiday decorating she does is a Christmas tree and that's it! So naturally when I got married and moved out, I decorated for every single holiday.

I just moved back in and brought my Thanksgiving decor. With it is a very pretty fall-looking wreath that I hung on my front door. Problem is, when I got to mom's house, she has all french doors! The front doors, the back doors, and even a set of french doors in the dining room! There is, however, one single door in the seating area of the kitchen that goes into a courtyard. The courtyard has 6 ft tall brick walls all around it, though. Would the wreath look ok there, or should I try to find a matching wreath, or should I just box it up and save it for next year when I've got a place of my own (and will make sure the place of my own has one single front door for wreaths)?

I have a wreath and I' m not sure where to put it?
Lay it horizontally on a table and put a lamp, candle, or bowl inside it. A bowl of unshelled nuts would probably look nice. Or hang it centered on a window frame if you have a single window (for example my dining room has one large window with a half round window above it)
Reply:On your car.
Reply:the single door
Reply:If you bought it for her french doors I would figure a way to use a big suction cup on the window of it and see how it fits there ,.,,,if not put it were ya think it will be nice,,,,,I would use it somewhere for sure,,,,,the brick wall might be hard to find a way to put it on,,but I think there are mason nails or something that will nail in brick....ENJOY
Reply:put it on that single door or use it as a centerpiece on a table filled with votive candles
Reply:on your front door

How would I make these fancy dress costumes?

1) A present/gift

2) A Christmas Cracker

3) A Christmas wreath

I woud preferably like to make them using materials such as cardboard etc rather than having to go out and buy lots of material/costumes.

Thanks.

If you have any other Christmas themed fancy dress costumes that can be easily made, please tell me!

Also, I don't want to dress up as some slutty elf, Mrs Claus etc.

P.S It's for school and we've got to wear it all day. I don't want to look a prat. XD

How would I make these fancy dress costumes?
The present idea..is good.. easily done but not wearable for all day.

This is an idea...get a nice white dress. Or white shirt and white skirt...and put over yourself a cardboard cut out of a star. This doesn't have to be that big of a star...and if you affix straps to your shoulders..and have the star on the back and the front...it should be comfortable to wear. Put glitter all over it with glue...or just make it out of aluminum foil...with glitter thrown on for good measure.

You can go nuts with the glitter...and put it everywhere...and even line some of your white dress with some gllitter glue..you can even paint some nice stars here and there.

So you will be the Christmas Star! That bright star that shone through the heavens and made such an impact on the whole world.

If you can't find a white dress...you can get some white sheets from a thrift store and make a very nice loose fitting tunic.

Good luck and Happy Holidays!
Reply:thing is if you don't want to look like a prat then your going to have to spend a bit of money and go to a fancy dress shop and buy something!!!!!!!! Its the only way trust me!!!!!!
Reply:You could be a snowman/lady

White top and trousers or white dress and tights and a scarf and hat and draw some buttons down the front

or you could be an elf, red or green trousers (coloured skinny jeans are really fashionable atm) and red or green top then buy an elfy hat from a pound shop and voila!

If you have to dress up christmassy you'll be guarentted to look a bit of a prat, buts thats half the fun lol

Good Luck and have fun

What do you use to hang large wreaths on brick houses outdoors?

You should try a masonry nail.

What do you use to hang large wreaths on brick houses outdoors?
I'm guessing you would get a drill bit for brick and drill a hole and install an anchor with a hook. I have the same question though. I wonder if you would caulk it so it is water-tight.
Reply:I have a brick home and in fact hung my wreath today. I pre drilled a hole into the mortor, not the brick. Then I secured a screw with a hook on the end - as I have utilized a pully system so I dont have to go up and down the ladder every year. I have a 50 ft metal cable with spring hooks on each end - Most wreaths are secured onto a metal frame - just hook it on and hoist away!
Reply:I've hung my wreath this year using fishing line. It's non visible and is very strong. Secure it to a window sill or a nail on the roof. Remember to pad any contact zones with cardboard to prevent scratching.

Secondly try, duct tape. It solves all manly problems. Duct tape a hook on the wall, then reinforce it with more duct tape. I found duct tape to work well on brick and masonary b/c of it's thick goo that can get into the cracks and crevices to get a good grip. The wreath should hide most of the duct tape.

Lastly, drill a pilot hole and then stick in the screw. I hate to do it, but it's unnoticable to potential home buyers. (Duh, like you didn't think of that)
Reply:A carefully positioned, big-@ss nail would do the job!
Reply:The best way I know is to drill a hole in the mortar, (not the brick) 3/16 or 1/4 inch and use a plastic increment of the correct size for the hole you drilled. Just the same as if you were putting it in drywall. If you have trouble drilling, get a masonry bit and use a slow speed on the drill. A little water on the bit will also help.

GOOD LUCK!
Reply:You could use a cement or something to get a nail or something on the bricks and then just hang it on the nail. Good Luck with it because i know you wouldnt want to use cement on your house and make it look horrible the rest of the year when the wreath isnt hanging.. sorry

The Iran President: Height of Hypocrisy, or setting an unsupported example of good will?

I'm so angry by the press' response to a country leader offering condolence and sadness over an injustice!

The Iran president requested the chance to lay a wreath at the 9/11 site and the press has put a malicious twist on the gesture that is an ugly (and irrational) reflection of our collective expectations.

He is likely NOT supported by many of his own people (and at this point, I'm sure they are gloating about how justified they were in their hesitation), but he was willing to sacrifice his relationship with his own people to exemplify good will and peace. And the press is calling it hypocrisy???? It has to start somewhere!!!!! And we sure as hell aren't going to do it.

He may not be the best example of a humanitarian, but at least he is TRYING.

Can't the press find a more deserving criminal than someone trying to show a country how to evolve?

The Iran President: Height of Hypocrisy, or setting an unsupported example of good will?
We should remember that soon after 9/11 a major support rally was spontaneously held in Tehran to express sympathy and solidarity with American victims of terrorism. I don't like Ahmadinejad at all, but his country had nothing to do with 9/11, and there is no reason to get our noses so out of joint about this.

We should also remember that the USA did more than enough to deserve Iran's hatred during the 50's, 60's, and 70's. We supported the incredibly unpopular regime of the Shah, and we also provided CIA logistical support to the Shah so he could seek out and eliminate every moderate voice for political reform in his country. The USA is a great country, but that doesn't mean we've never done anything wrong. I'm sick of being called an "American hating liberal" just because I have a better understanding of my own country's history than, "USA! USA! USA!"
Reply:Thank god, someone who has it straight. Report It

Reply:i feel like we are screwing up by not letting him lay a simple wreath . we have all heard that there was people lost from all over the world and he should have the right to pay respect to the victims. and also we have had a chance to bond with Russia and blew it i guess peace with Iran is out of the question to. we will probably have insulted Iran and we will keep the hate movement alive and well
Reply:IRANIAN made weapons are killing Americans in Iraq.

the gov. of IRAN sponsors terrorisom.

it is not acceptable for such evil to visit such hallow ground.
Reply:Honey, wake up. Offering sadness????

You do, of course, realize, that shortly after he was to appear to "lay the wreath" every arab language web site led by Al Jazeera would run film with the commentary that "Iran's president visits the site of the greatest triumph of Islam."

This is the guy that promises to wipe Israel off the face of the earth with nukes. You really think he's there to express sadness? Come out of your cocoon.

There is no sadness or condolence. Just a publicity ploy to rub it in your face aided and abetted by the nutbag that runs New York City.

Fortwynt . . not sure where you get your information. . even Al jazeera says he wants Israel 'wiped off the map.' Don't let facts get in the way of your American bashing.
Reply:You're as naive as President Jimbo Carter.
Reply:We have absolutely no diplomatic relations with Iran. In case you've forgotten, this is because they attacked our embassy and held our diplomats hostage. The only reason we let him in at all is out of respect for the UN. I don't see how the president of such a country has the right to wander around NY for a photo-op. Maybe if Iran started acting like a civilized nation (like apologizing for kidnapping British sailors), we can treat their president like a diplomatic visitor. Until then, I see no reason to let him mug for the camera at our memorials.
Reply:I don't trust the Iranian President as far as I can throw him. Nor do I believe he is 'going against his people'; they have no choice but to support him.

But I do believe it is wrong to turn away an act of condolence, no matter how late. Even if it is a ploy on his part, we will be the gracious 'winners' if we allow him to lay a wreath and he will look like the bad guy.

Instead, the Iranian President is looking like the good guy here. And who know, this could be the beginning of a warming of relations. It can't hurt to try.
Reply:I agree with you, why not give him a chance to see what really happened down at the Towers site. Maybe it is a peace offering..but now we will never know will we.
Reply:Geez!!! Do you think that it just might be possible that he's wanting to lay a wreath there for the HIJACKERS? I do. I've been waiting for someone to ask this question. And I didn't have to wait that long.

This man is a TERRORIST. Just ask the AMERICANS he helped kidnap in the late 70's. Everyone of them when they saw who became "president" of Iran said he was involved with there kidnapping.

And then there's the little thing of him supporting, training and arming, and sending his own troops into Iraq to kill AMERICANS.

I think you've had enough kool-aid. It's time to put the cup down and look at the big picture. This idiot has said that he wants to destroy Israel, and kill AMERICANS. This man is nothing more than a thug terrorist.

I hope he goes down there on his own like he says he will. And then I hope that those great New Yorkers will take care of this problem, once and for all.
Reply:Oh yes. Only WE are allowed to use 9/11 for photo ops and sympathy play. Hilarious.

By the way, our troops wouldnt be getting killed by anyones weapons in Iraq if we weren't there to begin with, so you can pretty much kill that argument before it starts.

Iran, and as we will recall Iraq, posed/poses NO threat to the United States, and the very same rhetoric is being used to drum up a war against people who hold no ill will towards america.....Do they have ill will towards the american GOVERNMENT? Sure they do, and for good reason. But let us remember that there is a difference between the government and the nation.

(by the way the man never said he wanted to wipe israel off the map so that argument fails as well, if it were going to be used)
Reply:you are donkey girl. This guy is threatening to wipe out Israel, they have sharia law where they stone women in public, they have mocked 9/11 and now he wants to make a mockery of ground zero.

go live in Iran if you like it so much or if you're from there.

Wreath etiquette? Sloppy apology?

Where does the bow go on a wreath? I got into a bit of a squabble with an older woman in my office because I moved the bow on the wreath at the office. I think the bow should go at the bottom, which allows the green part to show. She got seriously angry with me and told me it went at the top. She wouldn't speak to me all day and I found out later that she MADE the wreath and that she was badmouthing me around the office. She was such a wreck, that I finally apologized for moving the bow. I told her I put it back where she wanted it and I apologized for hurting her feelings. Her response was a very snotty "Since you don't like it the way I created it, I'll just take it down." Sure enough, this morning it was gone. Not another word from her about it and she was all trying to be my best friend. Was I wrong in this? Any suggestions on how I could have handled it better? I was just stunned by her behavior.

Wreath etiquette? Sloppy apology?
I thought that the bow went at the bottom of the wreath as well. There are dozens scattered around my school right now and that's they way they all are.

This particular wreath, though, since it was made by the woman is an exception. She sees herself an artist and that her art- it's offensive to change an artist's masterpiece, even if it does just take the form of an everyday decoration (Just think of "the fountain"). You obviously didn't know that she made it, or even that she could consider it artwork- so you didn't mean to offend, so the way you handled it seems fine.

I'm sorry that I couldn't help you figure out how to further deal with the situation, but I do hope that I helped to make you understand why she acted the way she did.
Reply:I've seen bows on every part of the wreath -- at the top, at the bottom, a bit to the bottom side (left or right) . . . I don't there is any rule as to where the bow goes.

Personally, I don't think I would have fiddled with a decoration once it had been put in place. Who really cares where the bow goes, anyway? She obviously had a great deal of pride of ownership for making the wreath, and was insulted that you didn't care for her effort. By criticizing her effort, you were, in a sense, criticizing her. However, she took it to extremes, and her subsequent, "I'll just take the wreath down" was childish and immature. You apologized, and she still got huffy. Give up. You tried. She's just enjoying being angry.
Reply:Second childhood, huh?
Reply:Don't listen to the advice you have gotten, just remember when you want to be mean to your elders that you have parents that are getting old and one day you will be old too.

Just let it go and if i were you I would take her a candy bar and tell her again that your really sorry. You will look better then just letting it go.
Reply:If this is someone you have to work with every day, and truly feel that you need a good working relationship with this person, then you can't just ignore her until she goes away. You have to be proactive.

As an apology, you could give her a gift card (for a small amount - maybe $10) to a craft store like Joann's or Michael's, and put it inside a card with a quick apology. Mention how much you liked the wreath (skip the bow talk), and encourage her to bring in more homemade items.

If you want to really get under her skin, you can try looking for a card with a wreath on it that has a ribbon on the bottom of it. ;-)
Reply:You did the right thing. She is just a grouchy person. Ignore her.

Candybar??? Lol!!!! Let me make an aero for you.
Reply:Its a wreath, for F's sake, who cares? Let her be a sourpuss and take her wreath down. Just for that, you should put your own wreath up with the bow at the bottom.

Take her a candy bar? She's not a 5 year old. Bad advice. She's a grump old sourpuss. No candybar for you!
Reply:I bet she was stunned by yours too. What possessed you to touch the wreath in any way to begin with?

Next time, you can handle things a bit better by just letting things be as they are and allow yourself to learn a few new things. Your way isn't 'THE ONLY' way.
Reply:If you're stuck looking at it all day long and it's right at your eye level, you have a right to change it. If she had just said directly, "I made the wreath special for the office and would appreciate it if you could put it back the way I intended" it would have been a lot better.

Good for you for apologizing, but shame on her for being grouchy about the apology. I also can't believe she would bad mouth you to others though. Guess she never got over being 13 years old.
Reply:Don't mean to be disrespectful to this old lady, but yeah, she sounds senile......... come on, it's just a damn wreath!!! It's not like you went to her house to mess up with her Xmas decorations or threw up her Xmas dinner or something of the like!!! She definitely overreacted and I don't think you should apologize anymore than you already have. You already did, if it wasn't enough for her, tough. She'll have to get rid of her anger by herself now. You already tried to make things right and she wouldn't make an effort herself, well, I don't think she was worth the effort anyway then. Just let it go.......
Reply:Don't listen to old people she probably had dementia or was senile.
Reply:The problem started when you altered the wreath. Unless she asked for your opinion, you should have never touched it.

I've noticed the strangest thing about men who hang out in bars a lot. It seems they have only one of two reasons to be there: They have no wife to go home to.... OR they do.

One day, a blonde who lived on the 12th floor of a high-rise apartment building was out on her balcony, flapping the bed sheets to air them out, when suddenly a great gust of wind caught the sheets and sent her over the edge, plummeting to her death.

"Oh, ****!" the woman thought, "what a stupid way to die."

Without warning, a man on the 10th floor balcony stuck his arms out into the air, catching the woman.

Delirious from shock, the woman shouted, "Oh, thank you! You saved my life, thank you!"

The man replied, "Do you suck?"

Stunned at this, the woman said, "No, I don't suck!"

And with that, the man let go of her.

"****!" the woman thought as she began to plummet again.

Suddenly, another set of arms grabbed her at the 9th floor.

"Thank God!" she screamed. "I would have died if it weren't for you!"

The man asked, "Do you ****?"

Absolutely aghast, the woman answered, "No, I don't ****!"

Once again, the arms that held her safe were no longer there.

Falling again, the woman thought that she would surely die.

Just then, a set of arms stretched out from the 7th floor. Not believing her luck, the woman shouted, "I suck! I ****!"

"****," the man said, and dropped her.

Little Johnny has always had a fascination with sex, and always talked to his parents about it. One evening, the conversation got around to talking about penis's.

Johnny's dad tried to explain it to Johnny in a child like way.

"Well Johnny, your penis sleeps for a very long time. Sometimes when it is around women, it wakes up, stretches and grows to about 5 inches long and..."

"Dad", interrupted Johnny, "That sounds a bit small. Mum said that Bob's next door is twice as big!!!"

While in line at the bank one afternoon, my toddler decided to release some pent-up energy and ran amok. I was finally able to grab hold of her after receiving looks of disgust and annoyance from other patrons. I told her that if she did not start behaving "right now" she would be punished. To my horror, she looked me in the eye and said in a voice just as threatening, "If you don't let me go right now, I will tell Grandma that I saw you kissing Daddy's pee-pee last night!"

The silence was deafening after this enlightening exchange. Even the tellers stopped what they were doing. I mustered up the last of my dignity and walked out of the bank with my daughter in tow. The last thing I heard when the door closed behind me was screams of laughter.

A guy runs into his ex-girlfriend at a bar.

"I had sex with another woman last night," he tells her. "But I was thinking of you the whole time."

"You miss me that much?" she asks.

"No", he says. "But it kept me from coming too fast."

start with your friends, neighbors, officemates and some referrals from them.

What are good hairstyle ideas for bridesmaids?

It's a formal renaissance wedding and I'd like for them to wear their hair down. I can't afford to pay for them to get their hair styled and any type of wreaths etc are out of the question. Various lengths of hair.

What are good hairstyle ideas for bridesmaids?
Women didn't wear their hair down and uncovered, it was a sign of a loose woman.

When they did wear it down, they covered their heads with a hat with a long veil as long or longer than their hair.

For a cheap imitation, try getting some fabric headbands in a similar color to their dresses and stitching some transparent material to it in the same color. As long as the cuts were clean, you could get away with having to hem the sides and bottom of the "veil". Or you could go buy the real thing from a bridal store.

The veil length should be either elbow or finger tip, no longer since it's for the bridesmaids.

Otherwise, try braids and have the women pin the braids up on their heads so their hair isn't left down.
Reply:Have everyone wear their hair down or partially down, all the same though. Crown with baby's breath, small amount, and they will look beautiful.

(scroll down to Hats) has several options- the French Hood flatters most any face, and is easy to make.

For a less historically-accurate approach, make two small braids, starting just above the temples, and pull back into a clip at the back of the head. ("Elf" style)

With my vaguely Tudor wedding gown- I have shoulder-blade length hair, I had mine half pulled back into a bun, where I could anchor my veil, then the rest hanging in spiral curls.
Reply:Try a nice updo
Reply:For a renaissance style take two pieces of hair from the front and tie them loosely together in the back with pretty ribbon. If you've ever seen the lord of the rings movies the elven girls wear their hair like that.

What is the name of italian red wine cookies?

Every Christmas my grandmother (her parents were northern Italian) makes these amazing cookies. It's a pretty simple recipe with red wine, olive oil, flour and sugar. The dough barely sticks together and they get rolled into little wreaths/loops and then dipped in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar before they're baked. They come out as slightly sweet, winey, hard, crumbly cookies. We just call them Nana's wine cookies for now, but curious to know what they are really called.

What is the name of italian red wine cookies?
(since you have red wine - Biscotti al Vino Rosso)

It's probably a dry red wine... Chianti, Valpolicella..(see below describing Italian wines.)

For non-Italian wines, a Burgandy or a Red Table wine... whatever you like, to be honest.

Recipe from link below: (since you have red wine - Biscotti al Vino Rosso)

Wine Cookies, or Biscotti al Vino

The holidays (or having friends for dinner) bring all sorts of leftovers, including half-empty bottles of wine. This is a surprisingly tasty way of dealing with said leftover wine, and your kids, or office-mates if you take these cookies to work, will loudly demand more. An excuse to open a second bottle!

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup (250 ml) wine of any kind

1 cup (250 ml) vegetable oil

1 cup (220 g) sugar

4 teaspoons baking powder

5 cups (500 g) flour

A pinch of salt

More sugar for rolling the cookies in

PREPARATION:

Work all the ingredients to gether, until you obtain a dough that's firm but fairly soft, rather like pizza dough. Roll it into snakes that you can shape into rings or S shapes, or into balls that you can flatten with the palm of your hand.

Dredge the cookies in granulated sugar, put them on a lightly greased cookie sheet, and bake them in a 360 F (180 C) oven for 20 minutes. Cool them on a rack, and prepare to be asked for more.

Types of Italian Wine:

Chianti

If one is looking for a nice, dry red wine from the Italian region, Chianti may just be the perfect choice. This medium-bodied wine is made from the Sangiovese grapes and comes largely from the Tuscany area. Chianti goes perfectly with red meats, pasta and shellfish as well as certain types of poultry dishes.

Valpolicella

Another medium-bodied red Italian wine is Valpolicella. This type of wine due to its dry characteristics and medium body will go best with flavorful, heavy varieties of food. Valpolicella is an extremely popular Italian red wine, coming in right behind Chianti with regard to being a highly favored wine.

Amarone

For those individuals who prefer a less dry red Italian wine, the Amarone variety might be the perfect wine to try. Although Amarone is somewhat dry it has a variety of flavor combinations which give it a sweet taste. This is paired nicely with various cheeses and foods which are full in flavor.

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

This type of Italian red wine is medium-bodied yet fruity in flavor. The tone of the wine will depend on the specific producer as Montepulciano d’Abruzzo wines can be drier or less dry depending on the vineyard. This is a type of red wine that can go with a wide variety of meals and food genres.

Lambrusco

If a wine drinker is looking to pour a glass of red Italian wine that is a bit different in nature, Lambrusco is the way to go. This wonderful red has a slight fizz to it and is not as dry as some of its red wine counterparts such as Chianti or Valpolicella. Lambrusco is a medium-bodied wine which is fruity in nature. The consistency of the Lambrusco makes it a wine that is easy to drink and unique in and of itself.
Reply:After a brief search on the internet, I found many similar recipes under the name ITALIAN WINE COOKIES. Most have the same ingredients, with varying amounts -- oil, wine, water, flour...and something to sweeten it, like sugar or honey. Below is a link to a recipe that sounds exactly like what you described -- including rolling the dough into a loop and dipping in sugar.

What is the best way to learn how to use a sewing machine?

I want to learn how to use a sewing machine. I want to learn how to make clothes and quilts. I love crafts. I make floral arrangements, wreaths and photo albums. I've sold many of my designs. I want to learn a new skill.

What is the best way to learn how to use a sewing machine?
Learning How to Sew

Great, you want to learn how to sew! Start out with a good foundation. Learn basic stitches by hand first. A good way to start is to use a kit that teaches 12 functional hand stitches. The kit %26amp; materials can be viewed at:

www.ezstitchsampler.com

Lots of people think they should get a pattern and hop on a sewing machine. This is wrong, wrong, wrong! Anyone who sews should understand the mechanics of sewing by using their hands first. After you've mastered the elementary introduction of hand-stitching, take a class at your local community college if it is offered, or from a fabric store. You'll learn how to lay-out a pattern, read the symbols, talk about fabric weaves, and cutting.

A good foundation is better than a shaky one. Starting out blind on a mechanical device beyond your control can be frustrating to say the least. If clothes designing is where you'd like to go, believe me, it will involve knowledge of hand sewing %26amp; machine work. People don't realize the value of hand sewing first. Look at the example of the traditional kimono, why are authentic ones so expensive? Beyond the fact that the fabric is exquisite, it is also completely hand sewn!

Good luck! You can do it.
Reply:Ask a friend who has one to show you how to use it. It's easier to be shown than to learn from a book. Use patterns for the clothes. You can make your own patterns for quilts.

http://www.simplicity.com/

has a sewing basics area.
Reply:Gray Wolf, For me the best way to learn something is to go at it head on. You'll learn better by doing things yourself. That way it's your own personal work that you'll enjoy %26amp; learn from your mistakes.
Reply:You learn best by doing it hands on. Check for a Sewing for Dummies book. Also this site is great. There are a lot of patterns on here and a lot of them are super easy to figure out. Best of all, you can print them off your computer.

www.youcanmakethis.com
Reply:If you have a machine, start with it. Get out the manual and familiarize yourself with the machine and its abilities. Select a project that is do-able for a beginner and jump in. Get a pattern with good directions - maybe starting with a tote bag or pillow pattern. You will need to learn the "lingo" of machines and sewing. Read your manual and just learn what you need to on the project you select. You will discover new things you want to learn to do as you go - each time, look it up in the manual and give it a try. Good Luck.
Reply:Learning how to sew is very easy. Usually the only thing that stops people is the fear of the unknown and making mistakes. All mistakes are a learning process...sometimes mistakes become a new fashion element and/or new creations. In short...dive right in and start sewing.

Sewing patterns are like blue prints...just follow the directions. If you have questions, there are a lot of websites that can help out. For instance this site has projects for beginners, intermediates and advanced as well as an index for anyone who has specific questions: http://sewing.about.com/library/blfeatur...

Another site: http://www.sewing.org/enthusiast/html/e_...

A free online book for beginning sewers: http://craftandfabriclinks.com/sewingboo... You can also check out books in your local library or find some great books at a book store.

Learn to sew classes are usually held at fabric stores or sewing machine dealers and maybe in a community center. They would be a good source as well. Teachers have hints and tricks that make sewing easier that experience has taught them and not necessarily learned from books.

By the way you described yourself, I got the impression that you are someone who can dive right in and learn. Start out with easy projects. Some of the websites I listed have easy projects for your use. Begin with the easy projects and increase the difficulty level as your successes increase. Pattern companies have "easy to sew" patterns for you to choose from that includes clothing.

The most important part of sewing for me is the way I embellish the projects with techniques that I have picked up by attending classes with other sewing enthusiasts and by browsing bookstores. Also, check out the sewing shows on the public broadcasting channels with Nancy Zieman, Sue Hausmann, and Martha Pullen etc. They give out lots of information that you can use to add to your projects that make them truly unique.

Just remember, that sewing is a learning process. Mistakes can and will happen to the best of us. Just be easy on yourself and don’t get overly critical or stressed out. Enjoy the creativity it brings you!
Reply:if you are crafty you can teach yourself,

the newer machines are a lot easier and have a lot of really great features, i'd recommend buying an inexpensive machine, not the cheapest though.

You will want it to be able to do more than straight stitch. Watch for one on sale, you can really save a bunch.

Check the library for books about sewing techniques and beginner projects.

Old sewing books have got great tips and finishing techniques so check thrift stores and such for those old books.

Happy sewing

What sort of things can I make cheaply and sell for a higher price?

I know someone who made and sold wreaths and candle oasis during christmas. I would like to make similar things that can be sold for high prices, all year round.

Any ideas??

What sort of things can I make cheaply and sell for a higher price?
silk flower arrangments or other arrangments in vases. Buy and then re-sell on e-bay. You could knit things if you can knit. If you cant knit very well you could always just keep it to simple things like scarves.

You could still do the candle thing. most people like nicely decorated candles in their homes these days whatever time of year it is.

Bake and sell cakes. Everybody loves home baked cakes but don't get round to doing it themselves.

You could sell any books that you've read.

Car boot sale?? have you any junk you can get rid of or can your friends and family help you out with their junk. You'll be helping them by getting rid of it for them and this won't cost you a penny. You can make hundreds of pounds at car boot sales depending on how much stuff you have.

I'm all out of ideas now but if I think of anything else I'll let you know.

I used to have a recipe for cornflake "wreaths". i can't find it and want to make some for this holiday.

How do you make green cornflake cookies?
The first person listed a good recipe for them. They're also really good if you put almond extract in them.

40 regular marshmallows

1 tsp. vanilla

1 tsp. green food coloring, or more to desired shade

6 c. corn flakes

Melt butter in large saucepan. Add marshmallows and cook over low heat, stirring frequently until marshmallows are melted. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and food coloring to desired shade of green. Add corn flakes and blend, stirring and mixing gently until all corn flakes are coated. With 2 teaspoons or buttered fingers, shape golf-ball size portions into wreaths on wax paper. Put 3 red cinnamon candies at intervals on each wreath to look like holly berries. Makes about 24.

How do Obama supporters feel about Jimmy Carter?

Jimmy Carter who endorses Obama, laid a wreath on the grave of Yasar Arafat today, and actually bowed to show respect for the terrorist. Jimmy "Give Hamas a Chance" Carter

With the support of Reverend Louis Farrakhan - Nation of Islam and New Black Panther Party - became home to many former Nation of Islam members a black supremacist organization

Does this send a clear signal to those who support Obama that he is not the choice to be the next President?

How do Obama supporters feel about Jimmy Carter?
I think Carter and Obama have very much the same view of the world. Carter is senile. If you were around in 1979, Carter said that "The US will NOT negotiate with terrorists!" Carter has migrated to the far left with Obama, and they are both out of touch with reality and deserve each other. I once supported and voted for Carter, but he is too far out there now for me to do so.
Reply:Personally, I admire Jimmy Carter a great deal.

I might not agree with every position he takes on every issue, but at least he tries to practice what he preaches, unlike many of the hypocritical morons currently running the country.

"Does this send a clear signal to those who support Obama that he is not the choice to be the next President?"

Uhhhhh..............no.
Reply:I have no problem with what Jimmy Carter did. He brokered the only peace accord in the Middle East that has held. Presidents after him have tried and failed. So far our present policies in Middle East have done nothing but get people killed. Funny how talking back then accomplished more than guns. If someone wants to kill you isn't it better to talk him out of it rather than getting you both killed? You can not assume that you will be the winner in a gun fight.
Reply:Just the opposite. You can have your Jewish Princes that will never force oil companies to compete and will fast track every good manufacturing job offshore. She want heath care for heath care industry. You didn't use he will take away your guns and God even worst charitable deductions.
Reply:You seem to be suggesting that the current policies of an ex-president and the former policies of a current religious leader will somehow simply become Obamas policies when he wins the presidency, and that my friend, is just ignorant.
Reply:Obama, as Carter says he would meet with these leaders without preconditions, so there is not much difference between the two, this is why Carter is endorsing him.

Is there a safe way to move a Robin's nest?

A robin has built a nest in the wreath on our front door. It has already laid an egg and we don't want to have it abandon the egg but it is kind of dangerous to open our front door. Any advice?

Is there a safe way to move a Robin's nest?
Is there anyway to use a different door until the baby birds leave the nest? Your only other options are these: move the nest to somewhere very close by to the original location, and the parents should still be able to find it. Is there a tree or scrub nearby? Or, you can keep using this door and be very gentle everytime you enter or leave. The bird obviously knew this was a busy area when building the nest but still thought it to be safe. Just to let you know..once an egg is laid in a nest..this nest is protected by law and cannot be destoryed. Good luck.
Reply:It's against the law to tamper with a songbird nest,as they are protected by law. Use the back door until the eggs have hatched and the babies have flown away.Think of it as a photo opportunity.

Is a holiday wreath considered religious?

I don't think so. I think it's from the Yule time Winter Solstice celebration. But they sure are harmless and festive to me.

Is a holiday wreath considered religious?
The hanging of wreaths and the trimming of (Christmas) trees is a Pagaen ritual and displeasing to God. Check your Bible.
Reply:I certainly hope not. Anyway, of late, just about everything we once took as ordinary has been pigeon-holed under some religious heading.

A holiday wreath, to me, is simply lovely to hang and I make them. I really don't plan on stopping.
Reply:Well, the wreath itself has few specific symbolic connections to Christianity, so no. However, it is derived from traditional Yule decorations, so, in the proper context, I might consider it to be an expression of Pagan beliefs; in that case I'd say yes.
Reply:Since Christmas is not a scriptural holiday, the holiday wreath is unscriptural as well.
Reply:Hi. I am sorry, but I do not celebrate pagan holidays.
Reply:My belief is that you can make anything religious. It depends on how the item in question is decorated and/or is used.

Have a lovely rest of the day.

Reply:it is pagan, so yes

The Encyclopedia Britannica, under “Celastrales,” exposes the origin of the holly wreath: “European pagans brought holly sprays into their homes, offering them to the fairy people of the forests as refuge from the harsh winter weather. During the Saturnalia, the Roman winter festival, branches of holly were exchanged as tokens of friendship. The earliest Roman Christians apparently used holly as a decoration at the Christmas season.”

There are dozens of different types of holly. Virtually all of them come in male and female varieties—such as “Blue Prince and Blue Princess” or “Blue Boy and Blue Girl” Female holly plants cannot have berries unless a nearby male plant pollinates them. It is easy to see why the holly wreath found its way into pagan rituals as a token of friendship and fertility.

I bought mine at Michael's, but I'm sure you can find them in most craft stores. British Slang: Wreath?

I just saw "Notes On A Scandal," and at one point one character accuses another of sending someone a wreath. I assume this is slang for something, but I can't figure out what. Anyone know?

British Slang: Wreath?
I don't know the play but it sounds as though the intention of the phrase is to imply that the person intended to "kill" the man or woman, either literally or metaphorically. To send a wreath would normally be an action following a death, so logically, accusing a character of sending someone a wreath would seem like a threat was made.

I am British but it is not a slang phrase with which I'm familiar.

What is the best part of washington dc and new york?

im going there with my school this may and if you've been, what is the best part?

also, is arlington cemetary cool? I might get to lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknowns there!

What is the best part of washington dc and new york?
In DC the monuments are cool - not only are they moving, but some of them are really great art/architecture. It's hard, for example, not to feel moved walking into the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial's little valley. Check out some of the less known ones, like the Navy Memorial or the incredible Japanese American memorial for these Patriotic Americans during World War II. And the FDR Memorial is almost like an open Art Gallery.

The museums are great, too, find one that covers a subject you are interested in, and discover it. I personally like Air and Space but I love the National Museum of the American Indian.

The Kennedy Center in DC is very cool - they have a free concert every evening at 6 PM, and the view out over the water is lovely.

I really like Adams Morgan, DuPont Circle, U Street and the Penn Quarter/Chinatown for nightlife, dining, and hanging out.

Arlington Cemetery is very moving, I am not sure that cool is the right word. but what an honor to maybe lay a wreath!

First you will need some superglue and a bit of heavy yarn or small rope . Attach the rope to the chinchilla's hind leg and use the superglue to hold it it place . Wrap the rest of the rope around the chinchilla and super glue the end to it's head . Walla instant chinchilla toy :) lol
Reply:U should write, no escessive info is appreciated! BTW, u sure hav a funny thinking!
Reply:look up some recipes for dog treats, then form something from dog treat dough
Reply:This is my favorite chinchilla question in a long time :)

I've been thinking along the same line- my family has a tradition of hanging stockings for the children and the pets in the family- so I had to plot a little for a suitable "chinchilla stocking/stocking stuffer"

Through experience, I've found chinchillas will try and grab and chew anything within and within REACH of their cage, so I'd hang your chin's stocking on a mantle with yours or on a wall (out of reach of the cage or any possible jumping surfaces) with a "Removable Utility Hooks with Command Adhesive" (google parenthesis if you're not familiar with the product).

As for stuffers, I recommend BarkBites, a new container of dust (try putting it in a ceramic dusting bath if you have one, but for no more than 3 minutes, otherwise invest in the ceramic dustbath as a present), or best yet, laying on the floor and interacting with your chinchilla an extra 30 minutes to an hour every night. These beautiful creatures can be a bit of what may be called "attention whor-s" but are highly pleased by the same simple pleasures. If you're going to be REALLY indulgent try this (made for bunnies, but safe for chinchillas- not treated or colored, just a fun cardboard play house for play time):

http://www.bunnyluv.com/buncritcas.html

P.S. The castle is my gift for my chinchilla, Luna, this year. She has been nuts about cardboard even since she discovered them (again-only untreated, uncolored cardboard and moderate how much they chew- chinchillas should primarily chew on their pellets and hay and be limited in the amount of cardboard or treats they may prefer)

Can your landlord prohibit Halloween Decorations?

My neighbor, who rents her house, put up a few Halloween decorations last week. She put a wreath on her door and a couple of those lightup pumpkins on the porch. She got a call from the landlord a couple of days later telling her to put the decorations away (I guess she had driven by) because the landlord doesn't celebrate Halloween because it is a pagen festival and she didn't want anyone from her church who sees the house to think she is condoning the celebration of the holiday.

I told my neighbor that I don't think she could forbid her from decorating, but I wasn't sure. Does anyone know if your landlord can prevent you from decorating for the holdays?

Can your landlord prohibit Halloween Decorations?
The landlord can only restrict decor if it is a PUD or Condo Association with covenants that control exterior appearances .

If the property is not part of an association with those rules for everyone ,

The landlord has no authority except with regards to health hazards and such .

At the same time , beware , unless your neighbor has a lease ,

The landlord can opt to evict with a 30 day notice .

%26gt;
Reply:It's not worth the headache. Tell her to take the decorations inside and start saving for a down payment on a home so she can decorate any way she wants within the boundaries of the town's codes.

It's a buyer's market currently and she might find a great deal on her own place.

If she is a first time homebuyer, have her look for programs for first time homebuyers in her city, town or state. Tell her that by the time the next holidays rolls around, she could be in a position to decorate any way she pleases.

Also, tell her that instead of paying her landlord's bills she can position herself to build equity.
Reply:I would say no unless the way they are attached to the house causes damage.
Reply:Once you rent your house to somebody, you have to respect their tradition and remove yourself from what's being done to the house, as long as it doesn't damage it.

In other words, this same landlord would forbid a Christmas tree if she didn't celebrate Christmas? it really shouldn't be any of her business once she gets money every month from the tenant.

This landlord doesn't respect your neighbour as being the current person living in the house - and reminds her that she owns the house, not her.

The fact that what other people might say counts so much for this landlord, just shows how narrow-minded, selfish, and opinionated she is.

If I were your neighbour, I would bring the decorations to the backyward, and try to move out. It won't be long before this landlord will cause her trouble.
Reply:Unless specificaly noted in the lease and is not against public law. The anwser is no. However is it worth the fight and future problems? Esp if there is no written lease.

Who is given credit for the origin of the advent wreath?

The actual origins are uncertain. There is evidence of pre-Christian Germanic peoples using wreathes with lit candles during the cold and dark December days as a sign of hope in the future warm and extended-sunlight days of Spring. In Scandinavia during Winter, lighted candles were placed around a wheel, and prayers were offered to the god of light to turn “the wheel of the earth” back toward the sun to lengthen the days and restore warmth.

By the Middle Ages, the Christians adapted this tradition and used Advent wreathes as part of their spiritual preparation for Christmas.

However, wiki says it was a man named Johann Hinrich Wichern.

Who is given credit for the origin of the advent wreath?
?
Reply:The Adventists.
Reply:The green spikey leaves represent Jesus' crown of thorns and the red berries represent Jesus' blood.

During Christmas time i know there is an advent wreath. is there a such thing as a Lent wreath???

Is there a such thing as a lent wreath?
No, there isn't. Lent is about the desert, dry, apparently barren, painful and difficult to travel. Then at Easter everything can burst into new life, lots of flowers and blossoms and greenery. (This wouldn't be so significant if we had Lent wreaths and flowers in the church etc).
Reply:good idea we could market that
Reply:You could always make an Easter wreath. Bunnies, chicks, lilies, Easter eggs... you get the idea.
Reply:No
Reply:I was not aware of a Lenten wreath until this year. Please go to a search engine and search for Lenten wreath. I think you will much information about the Lenten wreath. Our church started using one this past Wednesday, Ash Wednesday.

The Holiday Wreath; Opinions?

Perhaps you have heard of the story about the Holiday Wreath.

If not, this is basically what happened/happening.

A person decides to hang a mistletoe in the form of a wreath (peace symbol) on her house.

The community doesn't like it and decide to try to charge her $25 dollars a day until she takes it down.

They think it might be to protest the war in Iraq or something.

The Board of Whatever refused to fine her saying it was a decoration and all 5 members were fired.

For full details, look up the story on CNN or something

What are your opinions on this incident?

The Holiday Wreath; Opinions?
She should have hung it up in Moscow

they have a real thing there now about freedom of expression !!!

Stuns me to this moment that we call ourselves Americans

say we believe in the Constitution

say that the men and women that are in Iraq are fighting for a thing called Freedom (which does include the freedom of speech and the freedom of expression)

and then we have something like this occur here !!

We are rapidly deterirating into a place where the central government IS the master of our thoughts and the preveyor of all that we should do and say---to express another view is to be something of an enemy of the state, and then by association, the people--MY HAT IS OFF TO THE PEOPLE WHO LOST THEIR JOBS OVER THIS---I THINK THEY SHOULD RUN FOR CONGRESS !!!!
Reply:what is this world coming to,
Reply:the lady was not expressing any thing but peace for the season. the sixies were filled with peace signs and no one made us take them down because of the vietnam war. let it stay...
Reply:I think it is ridiculous. How in the world does this have any satanic message? It is a peace sign. People are way to sensitive anymore about everything. Good for those board members for standing their ground. I applaud all of them.
Reply:In my opinion, anyone who chooses to purchase a home in a housing development that allows restrictions to be placed upon personal freedom of expression deserves what he or she gets in the way of monetary fees, ect.

What kind of fool would surrender his or her own right to freedom of expression in order to live in a nice house? If he or she doesn't like the rules agreed upon, then he or she ought to sell the house and buy one where restrictions are not an issue.
Reply:Another infringement of our rights. Its ridicules.
Reply:I saw the story. There is absolutely nothing offensive about the decoration. As far as the question of the jurisdiction of the so-called "homeowners association" goes, I can think of nothing more to say about this phenomenon except that the renter of an apartment has more rights in most places in America than the victim of a "homeowners association" has. They really should call themselves "voluntary police-state associations". Communism is alive and thriving in America, thanks to this concept!

Does anyone know where you can get a minnie and mickey mouse christmas wreath i seen one on an american site?

The only thing I can think of for anything like that is to check out www.ebay.com. You can find almost anything there. I have never had a problem with any transaction in the past ten years of buying.

I found a birdnest with baby birds in the wreath on my front door. Should i move it ?

I saw the answer about the fact that it is a myth that a mother bird will abandon her young if she smells a human scent on it. That IS true for monitoring nests and getting near them.

However, if you move the nest, she WILL abandon the eggs! She picked a nesting site for a reason. Even if you moved it to a bush near your door, she will abandon the eggs. Just try to use another door for a little while. The entire nesting cycle of a songbird is 4 weeks. 2 weeks incubation of the eggs and 2 weeks of the babies being in the nest.

I found a birdnest with baby birds in the wreath on my front door. Should i move it ?
no leave it alone and the momma bird will take care of them, otherwise the momma bird will abandon them and let them die.
Reply:If you can leave the nest, that would be best. Using a different door until they fledge would be most beneficial to the birds...you won't scare the parents as much, and you won't increase the chances of the babies falling out.

If you MUST move it, move the WHOLE wreath, and put it as close to the original location as possible (a couple of feet away on the wall next to the door?). That way the parents can find the nest again.
Reply:No, there is no reason to move it.

It is a MYTH that mother animals will abandon their babies if they smell 'human' on them. The mothering instinct is MUCH stronger than that!

Still, you want to avoid touching ANY wildlife, unless it's absolutely necessary.

Enjoy watching the baby birds grow up! From a distance, of course...
Reply:I would leave the nest there, put a "Shhh, Baby is Sleeping" door hanger on the front door and ask your visitors to enter through another door until the baby birds have hatched and flown away.
Reply:You can move it but be very carefull not to touch the eggs or the mother will reject them
Reply:aww how cute. would you mind just using the back door and letting them stay? You could post a sign for visitors that says "please use back door". It would be fun to watch out the window and watch them grow up. THat's what I would do...because baby birds are cute. Awww.
Reply:Don't move, do not even touch it. Let them fly on thier own.
Reply:We had exactly the same experience some years ago when a robin built a nest in the fuchsia planet hanging on our front porch. She laid her eggs, took good care of her young, and eventually they all flew off happily into the sunset.
Reply:no, its too late to remove it now taht there are babies
Reply:No, please don't touch it. The mother bird will leave the babies if you move it. If you can be patient they will all leave the nest when they get big enough. Maybe you can use the back door in the mean time.
Reply:only if you want the birds to die. other wise no,
Reply:don't move it and please use another door. Leave a note reminding yourself not to use the nest door. I accidently opened a door where there was a nest in my wreath and one of the eggs fell out.
Reply:absolutely not
Reply:no you shouldn't, those baby birds are waiting for their mommy to come back. If you remove it, you won't know how heartbroken that mommy is.
Reply:no.
Reply:NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leave it there - the mother bird is probably just out getting them something to eat.
Reply:no... it would be best just to use the back or side door until the babies leave the nest. this usually takes 2-3 weeks from the time they hatch, but varies depending on species.

if you touch or move the next the parents will probably abandon it or not be able to find it.

if you cant use another door, move the wreath off the door without touching the nest or babies (as much as possible), but do NOT move it far away and remember to keep it high away from the reach of cats.

.
Reply:Don't touch it. Because the mother bird will not come back after humans have touched the nest. it will abandon the baby birds. Not good. I have a bird house on my porch and I am very careful about touching it.
Reply:Hate to answer a question with a question, BUT...

Is there a good reason to do so?
Reply:no, but I heard that's good luck.

How much are you willing to spend?

There are companies that will manufacture one for you, but it will be steep.

Look in the telephone directory.

How giant?

Hold on, I'm thinking.

Maybe something like this?

Christmas wreath?

what is the significance of a Christmas wreath? when did it start-and why? what does it symbolize?

Christmas wreath?
see the url below for the site referenced

""The wreath has a long history and many religious associations dating back to the ancient cultures of the Persian Empire. Originally, the circlet was called a "diadem" and took the form of fabric headbands which were sometimes adorned with jewels. Beginning in 776 B.C., wreaths made of laurel leaves were used to crown victors of Olympic Games. Later, when the Games began to move to different cities, each host city would award head garlands made of branches of local trees.

Exactly when the transition from head ornament to wall decoration occurred is unclear. It is likely that celebration attendees simply hung the leafy headbands on their walls as souvenirs. Today, beautifully decorated wreaths are not only an integral part of the December holidays, but they're popular thoughout the year, decorated to fit each season.

Perhaps the loveliest use of this symbol is the Advent wreath. Although its true origin is not know, some believe it was inspired by the Swedish Crown of Lights, a candle-bearing crown worn by young Swedish girls on St. Lucia's Day. St. Lucia was a young Christian martyr who gave her entire dowry to the poor.""

Is there a special nail to hang items on exterior stucco walls?

I am decorating my screened-in porch. Only the front part is screened, the other walls are stucco, like the exterior of the house. I have some wall decor to hang: a lightweight wooden trellis with a silk wisteria vine, a wreath, a lightweight wooden sign, and a heavier "Welcome" plaque. Nothing is heavy. Is there a special nail, hanger, or technique to use? I don't want the stucco to crumble, chip, or crack when I drive a nail into it.

Suggestions, please?

Is there a special nail to hang items on exterior stucco walls?
I've got stuff hanging all over my stucco and I used screws and my power drill. I did use a wall molly to hang some wrought iron planters, but they are pretty heavy. I don't have cracks or chips around any of the holes.
Reply:Ask for the department at Home Depot that sells nails.I think there is a certain way to hang things on Stucco or you damage it.
Reply:First of all, use galvanized hardware (nails, screws, etc.). The coating on the hardware will not rust and leave a rust mark on the stucco. Use a plastic anchor, something that will spread out when you put the screw or nail into. This is always the best way to hang something if you cannot find the stud. If some does crumble, use some outdoor caulking to fill the hole and then paint over when you are done with that hole.

Can I plant seeds from a pinecone and get a tree??

I found these great pinecones that I LOVE, and I've had them for about 1 year and I'm making a wreath with them but noticed the seeds all fell out and I was wondering if anything would happen if I tried to plant them.

Thanks for you help!!

Kristine

Can I plant seeds from a pinecone and get a tree??
actually some pinecones will only be able to grow into trees after they have been through a fire. They searing heat does something do the coating on the seeds to make them sprout. I would try planting a couple in soil as they are and try some with the outside shell filed down on one side. Just enough to expose the inside. These may sprout better.
Reply:Yes, they will grow into a pine tree.

However, it will take a long time.

If you want a pine tree, go to your local nursery or home improvement store and buy one that is already ready to transplant. Otherwise, plant the seed and wait.
Reply:a pinecone is basically a seed so if you plant a pinecone you get a pine tree
Reply:wow! from a wreath? That is SO cool! Let me know if it works, I want to plant an easter egg and see if I can grow a basket of candy
Reply:take them out to the woods and toss them into the dirt. that is how they grow in forests.
Reply:Yes it will. But it will not comet he same.
Reply:I'd be very surprised if you got anything else!
Reply:yes
Reply:if a acorn got in it...
Reply:no you put lemon jello in the ground and a pinetree will grow

Can anyone help me identify a Mexican coin?

Obverse has $100, V. Carranza, 1986 date, om, man wearin glasses and sporting a beard, 7 dots

Reverse has Eagle and snake, bottom wreath, and Estados Unidos Mexicanos

This has a bronzish, gold color.

Collar is ridged and spaced around entire edge.

Can anyone help me identify a Mexican coin?
You have a 100 Peso coin made out of aluminum-bronze. It's reference number is KM# 493. and there was 43,000,000 minted. That was the lowest mintage for this type coin, during the 1980's. It books for a $1 in grade very fine up to $10 in mint state. These are book prices, so expect to get less from a dealer.
Reply:It is worth around 9 dollars
Reply:Additional info for you:

7 dots = Braille for 100.

V.Carranza = Venustiano Carranza Garza(1859-1920), was one of the leaders of the Mexican Revolution and first president under the new Mexican Constitution of 1917.

Estados Unidos Mexicanos = United Mexican States.

Eagle %26amp; snake = Coat of arms of Mexico, adopted September 16th, 1968.

In 1993, Mexico issued "Nuevo" pesos(new pesos) in order to stem inflation, and the last two zeros were removed from the value. $100 old pesos was worth what a $1 peso coin is worth today, but you can no longer circulate your $100.

This may sound very silly, but i'll ask it anyway. birds are making a nest in wreath on my front door??

about a month ago, birds were making a nest in wreath on my front door, so i brought it inside as it isn't a good place for a birds nest with our family traffic going in and out and birds flying around After waiting for several weeks, i put the wreath back on door and today i noticed a beautiful little nest built so well and now don't know what to do. do you think i should put the wreath someplace safe so they can have their nest in it?? thank you - silly question i know.

This may sound very silly, but i'll ask it anyway. birds are making a nest in wreath on my front door??
leave it alone, and use another door if you can
Reply:If you move it, they won't use it.
Reply:yeah I'd put it some where safe, but it's really up to you if you wanna leave the nest inside your wreath or not
Reply:It's iffy that the birds will want to live if you move the wreathe. Is there any way you can redirect traffic through another door while the birds hatch the brood? Otherwise, maybe just move it over a few feet so there's a better chance the birds'll find it.
Reply:This happened to me a few years ago. If you can move it without touching with your hands(use gloves) and certainly do not touch the nest, move it where it is still close to the door. I wired it to the porch light. It was great because when they laid their eggs I was able to show my son. Everyday would check to see if they hatched and it was very exciting for him. After they abandoned the nest at the end of the season I gave it to a friend who sterilizes and uses them for craft projects.
Reply:thats a good sign ,yes keep it safe
Reply:Have everyone come in another door and let the birdies grow up. It wont take long
Reply:LOL its not silly, my mom has the same problem. She always has a nest of birds on her wreath on her front porch. They were trying to make one in the one she has now but she pulled all the grass and stuff they started bringing up. It is a pain cause every time we would go over the momma bird would fly out and scare us half to death. You could move it somewhere else or just put it up. They will find somewhere else to go.
Reply:If there's a good place outside near the door that's not actually on the door, that would be good. If not, take the wreath back in right away before they lay eggs in the nest.
Reply:awww that's so sweet, yes I think you should put the wreath somewhere so the birds can have thier nest. That's wonderful to see nature at work. Take care. Let us know if any eggs develop please.
Reply:no!! let it there they might not know where to find it if you move it!!
Reply:That is very dear. I think the birds really, really want to nest in your wreath so yes, put to the side, or close by somewhere

safe.
Reply:ummm yes.
Reply:Yes, If the birdie's really like that spot , why not give it to them ? Just hang the wreath where it won't be disturbed and i'm sure it would be fun to watch them also.

Aww! how sweet that is too .
Reply:You have about three choices.

1. You and your family quit using that door until the eggs

and the birds are gone. Best for the birds.

2. Move the wreath and the nest. Might or might not be

acceptable to the birds. If you do decide to move it,

don't move it very far and wear gloves while moving it

to keep the human scent off of it as much as possible.

Middle of the road approach that might work out OK.

3. Toss the nest and bring the wreath inside. The birds will

go build another nest somewhere else.
Reply:If you can't put the wreath on a safe wall on the porch..move it to a tree in your front yard so you can watch the family develope.

AND THANK YOU FOR DONATING YOUR WREATH.
