How do you analyse semiotically the United Nations emblem ?

The design is "a map of the world representing an azimuthally equidistant projection centred on the North Pole, inscribed in a wreath consisting of crossed conventionalized branches of the olive tree, in gold on a field of smoke-blue with all water areas in white. The projection of the map extends to 60 degrees south latitude, and includes five concentric circles".

How do you analyse semiotically the United Nations emblem ?
The five concentric circles represent the five main organs of the UN. The wreath of olive branches that are crossed has the globe within it, echoing the aim of the UN in fostering a united world and global peace. The projection is centered on the North Pole because it avoids the problem of biased perspective (i.e. the Middle East has its name because it is referenced from a Western perspective. To China the region is actually the Middle West). White is a colour used to present purity and peace almost universally across all cultures (this the notion that you raise a white flag to surrender). Gold is considered too the purest and richest of all metals and this represents the goal of having a pure and lasting partnership between states in the UN.
