I need information on what each part on a coat of arms means?

I find pictures on what the different parts names are, but I don't know what they mean. Like for example what is a crest and what exactly does it signify, or wreath, or helm. I would also want to know what it means when the shield is split into different parts.

I need information on what each part on a coat of arms means?
Every part of the shield means different things, not only the shape of the shield, but the color, the way its divided, and the images it carries.

My family crest has a green and white surrounding, noting that I have Celtic ancestry, its main shield is a St. Georges Cross, denoting that my family were crusaders, the legless bird denotes that my family ancestors were at one time without a title, the sword denotes military honor. Finally, the central lion denotes Dauntless courage. Lovely crest :D

Coats of arms do not belong to surnames. There are companies that peddle surname products on the internet, at airports and in shopping malls. Beware.
